Hi Maju
actually I did have to remove all of the files
this is because when I published the autorun the whole site crashed - both back and front
i was unable to access anything
so I was forced to login with linux bash and manually delete all of the vm invoice files so i could use the site again

once I had deleted the files the site was up and running again I tied to install the software again via the extension manager, as is suggested throughout the forum, but I would always get an error message, because various files still existed from the original install as well as db entries in the jos_extensions & jos_menu and the main vm_invoice db entries which I have also erased

now when I try to install i get the following error (see attached screen capture)

My client really wants the vm invoice functionality

so how should we proceed - thank you in advance

There is possibility to disable plugins through database. It is in table #__extensions, where if you find your row, you can set enabled to 0.

But if you remove big part of files and folder... I can't see administrator/components/com_vminvoice in your list of removed folders.
Maybe it help you.

And you bought and downloaded component in 21.9. Can you check emails from that date? There should be downloadID used in download link which you can use after new installation of component. It is important code. You have right to update VM Invoice for 1 year and make automatic reinstallations.

yes I forgot to mention that I did delete the administrator/components files as well
