i tried creating the custom menu title shop/, but it does not work.

i noticed now on facebook for instance, there's links that point to either or of these link varieties. lots and lots of links and all the ones that starts with shop/ now ends in a 404 page.

would you be able to maybe give me an example of your suggestion with the .htaccess file? .htaccess is not my strong point.

Following rule should redirect all the URLs starting with shop/ to the same URL with shop/ part removed:


If you have the Add menu title to URL option enabled, the menu item title should be added to both URLs you posted, and the Custom menu title should be used instead of the real one if it's set. You should use only the shop as Custom menu title without the ending slash.
Have you updated or purged wrong JoomShopping URLs after setting up the Custom menu title? Also make sure that you always clear JoomSEF's cache if it's enabled.

my site's links are just one big mess now. i don't know what joomsef has done to it and i don't know how to fix this. it's going to ruin my site's ranking.

there's a whole bunch of them, for each category. my categories always used to be like this, shop/safety-gear/abec-11/abec-11-cafe-racer-helmet.html.

my manufacturers seem to display properly now: shop/manufacturername.html

Please try the following steps:
1. Open Manage Extensions page in JoomSEF and open the JShopping extension parameters
2. On the Common tab make sure that "Add menu title to URL" is enabled and set "Custom menu title" to "shop" (without the quotes)
3. Go to JoomSEF's URLs Manager and delete the wrong URLs (the ones not starting with shop)
4. In JoomSEF's Control Panel on the Maintenance tab click the Clear Cache button

With these settings all the JoomShopping URLs should be generated starting with shop. Please let me know if it works.
