Hi, we're having this error show up on our testing site and have been locked out of both the front and back ends.

Is there any way to get in to the admin area or disable the component temporarilry to regain access?

you can disable component via database. Find table #__extensions and installed component. Change enabled to 0.
To error: I never saw this problem. You did nothing, just installed component and it locked your sites with this error?

didn't even install the component. We've had it working fine for over a year. Suddenly this morning when testing some coupons, this error came up.

I've tried un-enabling the main component in the database, but no effect, do I need to find all instnces that use vm_invoice, such as the delivery note configuration and invoice configuration?

I think, it should be better to find source of this problem. You get error with image, because TCPDF can not find it.

What image is that? Where it came from? Is path to that image set right? It should be relative path from root of your project. But topic name show probably wrong path. Modify that path and it should be repaired.

Nothing has changed since the last time it was used, but suddenly this error occurred. It looks like VMInvoice is trying to create images of files in there, all the permissions are fine, I've tried deleting the folder, VM Invoice then recreates it (as I'd expect) but still won't allow the site to load...

This error is on every page probably because of enabled plugin Autorun. So we can try this: Find extensions table in the database and look for 'System - VMInvoice Autorun' plugin. Disable it by changing enabled to 0. I hope it helps your pages to work.

Second thing is that bug. You had to change something, what made this bug. Did you change logo in Virtuemart? Or did you modify invoice template and add there some images? TCPDF can not probably find that image or that image is in unsupported format. We can only recommend to use jpeg or non animated gif should work too.
