upon ordering a product a confirmation email is NOT sent!
Why is that, please advise!

Hello,

installation of VM Invoice has no influence on sending of order
confirmation or status change notification emails by VirtueMart. They
should still be sent in the same way.
So, please check your settings in VirtueMart.
