TOPIC: Simple question, new user, can't see answer in doc

Simple question, new user, can't see answer in doc 13 years, 9 months ago #21054

Hi

This
www.retro36.com/shop/price/5-to-10/the-d...ight-joker-art-print
and this
www.retro36.com/shop/brands/dc-comics/th...ight-joker-art-print

point to the same product. That's a duplicate URL.

I've just installed JoomSEF with the VirtueMart extension (replacing AceSEF) in order to be able to remove the price5-to-10 or brands/dc-comics part of the URL so the URL for this product becomes www.retro36.com/shop/the-dark-knight-joker-art-print , or maybe www.retro36.com/the-dark-knight-joker-art-print

How do I set that up? I've looked through the config and documentation and I can't see how.

Cheers

Hello,

First, you need to purchase and install our VirtueMart extension for JoomSEF: www.artio.net/e-shop/joomsef/joomsef-ext...-joomsef-3-extension

Then you can open the extension's parameters (using the Manage Extensions page in JoomSEF) and configure it to not add the categories and menu title to SEF URL.

OK, I think I've done that and nothing's changed. JotCache and Joomla cache are off. What have I missed?

Example: www.retro36.com/shop/gender/female/titanic-ice-cube-tray

I want

www.retro36.com/shop/titanic-ice-cube-tray
or maybe
www.retro36.com/titanic-ice-cube-tray

Cheers :-)

New products added have the right URL setup, so I'm guessing I must have to update the URLs, fine, I can see that option in JoomSEF configuration.

That says to back up my URLs, so I think the way to do that is to export the database and if it goes wrong, re-import the whole database. That will work, right? I don't need to back up also the .htaccess files do I? And if it does go wrong, I'm guessing I might be able to just import a few key tables.

Anything wrong with any of that?

So .. no-one here knows how to back the system up before updating the URLs. Cool. It's like computing by James Dean. Code as if you'll live forever. Backup as if you'll die today.
