TOPIC: how to get a Module to display on custom 404 page

how to get a Module to display on custom 404 page 13 years, 6 months ago #22523

Hi,
we have a custom 404 page which is an uncategorized article. we have a link to that article from a hidden menu. the page works just fine when called directly... mysite.com/error-404
i applied a menu module on the left to that page and it works fine.
So i set it up in joomSEF to use that page (with itemid) as the 404 page. and now when a 404 error is generated by a user they see that page but not the left menu module.

without joomSEF when a 404 is generated the site goes to the error-404 page, but with joomsef turned on the page is not actually returned. the url stays as the mistaken url but then the content displayed is the content of the custom 404 i created...

any help would be appreciated greatly!!

Hello,

I understand your problem. It is caused by the Itemid value. When a 404 error occures, there might be an undefined or wrong Itemid set and thanks to that fact, Joomla does not know what modules should be generated.

There is a setting Use Itemid for Default 404 Page in JoomSEF configuration. Make sure that is set to yes. Then JoomSEF should override the Itemid regardless its original value.
