In JoomSEF, I think can be very good if, when:
- an article is present, but unpublished
- the url is in the JoomSEF list but is disabled, unsefed, unlocked
the 301 rule override the 404 because I think that is useful if an administrator can redirect the users to a new url when he unpublish an article whithout to must delete the url form the JoomSEF list.

If this is possible just now I apologize, because I can't understand how to do that.

Thank you.

Hello,
we are working on some improvements that will automate some task when wroking with the article, such as renaming it, deleting, etc.

However, in relation to your post, what I am not sure about is, where you would like to redirect the user in case the article gets unpublished?

My problem is this: when an article is unbublished and the sef url is present, I have an error because the article is unreachable. The server show the 404 error page (the page with the 404 whit on a red background). Usually to solve it I put the sef url in the trash but I think can be good if, having a sef url and an article unpublished, the rule for the 404 (404 page or redirect) override the presence of the sef url and the unreachability of the article. I prefer my 404 page (or rule) instead the one with the red row (do you understnad? one similar to this this )

I am not shure if the cause of this behavior is my personal setup... :) In another Post I recieve the suggestion to deactivate "Parse Joomla SEO links" and "Redirect Joomla SEO to JoomSEF". But with "Parse Joomla SEO links" off the component JX FINDER don't work, and anyway the problem persist.

I am sorry for my english and I hope you understand. The summary is: unpublishing an article I think is good to have my custom 404 message (choosed in the JoomSEF preferences)
