TOPIC: How do I use æ, ø and å letters in the URL?

How do I use æ, ø and å letters in the URL? 17 years, 7 months ago #2111

1. I want to use a Url called /søkemotoroptimalisering.html instead of sokemotoroptimalisering.html

How may I enable æ, ø and å (UTF-8) in JoomSEF?
Could you also describe how this is beeing done technically?
Will the use of special characters in JoomSEF create 404 pages, or is the JoomSEF operations not "replacing" URL's, but only forwarding to internal content?

2. I also want to know how I may disable the use of the dynamically generated "site name" in meta tags and X-Meta-Description from Joomla.

I want to completely control ALL meta data from within Artio JoomSEF.

Hello Trond,

ad 1) it is not possible to use other then plain ASCII characters in URLs, so no UTF-8 or other national charaters in other encodings are possible; it is a RFC standard

so technically, this is impossible with current Internet standards :-)

ad 2) this may be configured using the ARTIO JoomSEF metabots parameters -- find it in the mambots list of your Joomla site and check the options available

Best regards,

Ref. ad 2:
I have checked the mambot, and this is the configuration:
Rewrite keywords: Yes.
Prefer JoomSEF title: Yes.

There are noe more parameter options available.

Need help!

ref. ad 1: Take a look at no.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%B8kemotoroptimalisering
this website gets high ranking when I use Googel (Norway) to search for the word "søkemotoroptimalisering".

In fact google reads the word "søkemotoroptimalisering" out of the word "S%C3%B8kemotoroptimalisering" and this is awesome!

I'm looking for something similar, but I'm not able to use the link S%C3%B8kemotoroptimalisering through joomsef. I get a 404.

Take a look at www.optimalisering.net/GoodURL.jpg and you will better understand my needs!
Since this board doesn't display the UTF-8 characters correctly, the image will better show my issues.

By using S%C3%B8kemotoroptimalisering.html I will get a superb ranking advantage in Google, and this has HIGH priority !

I do have the same question, using chinese language in url's. It's a big benefit, using non ASCII char letters in URL, cause this technique seems to be relative new. I have seen it on several sites (wikipedia....) and google is able to index such non ASCII urls!!! May be your browser isn't able....but that doesn't matter. The site will be shown correct.

Is it a provider problem, or just a thing of ARTIO to have non ASCII char URLS???
