Alright... I don't know _WHAT_ I'm doing wrong.. but I think I double-checked everything.. it just doesn't work.

mod_rewrite is enabled on apache and also show fine in the php information in the admin section...

I checked the URL's generated, and they all seem fine from the administration section..

But when I access the website.. I always get a 404.. as if it actually doesn't rewrite it anyways.

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the fact that I have a reverse proxy server infront of the webserver.. could that be the case? Or? Just to be safe, I loaded rewrite there as well in apache.. but it still doesn't seem to work...

Hello,

first of all, make sure that your .htaccess file is not being ignored by Apache.
(it may be disabled)

You can simply find that out by putting some nonsense line into it. E.g. "just testing".
If it is NOT ignored, you will get 500 Internal error message.
If it IS ignored, nothing will change - in such case, make sure there is AllowOverride defined for your site VirtualHost or contact your server admin if unaware how to set it.

When trying this, be sure to edit it via FTP, so you can easily change it back. If you would edit it using the .htaccess editor in JoomSEF, the 500 Error would cut you off administration also!
