TOPIC: Can we not display index.php at end of the URL?

Can we not display index.php at end of the URL? 18 years, 1 month ago #414

Great product. Worked right out of the box, after I removed the comments in front of the 3rd party components section of my .htaccess file!

I would really like to not display the index.php at the end of my url. I had always thought that showing index.php would alert some search engines and spider that the site was automatically generated and then they would not index the site.

I would like to see my urls changed (globally) as in the following examples:

From:
www.a-1accommodations.com/land-for-sale/index.php
To:
www.a-1accommodations.com/land-for-sale/

From:
www.a-1accommodations.com/land-wanted-to-purchase/index.php
To:
www.a-1accommodations.com/land-wanted-to-purchase/

Is this a good idea. I would also not be opposed to having all the pages display a .html extension. For example, I would be happy if both of these were to display as follows:

www.a-1accommodations.com/land-for-sale/index.html
www.a-1accommodations.com/land-wanted-to-purchase/index.html

Please let me know what is the most search engine friendly way to display these urls and how I can do that.

Thank you very much!

Sean Carney

BTW, I should clarify. The urls without index.php appended do work. However, all the urls that are being created in Joomla for my menu items include the index.php string. That is what I would like to not have.

I was able to get everything working as I wanted. All URLs end with .html and all the urls that before had index.php at the end are now displaying index.html

All is well.

There is only one link that is still displaying index.php and I suspect it might be a joomla core file that needs to be edited.

On my site the Home page link in the verticle breadcrumb trail links to www.a-1accommodations.com/index.php

I would like to make that one also link to /index.html but have not figure out how. All the other links are using .html now.

Hello Sean,

first thank you, we are glad you like this component.

Second, as regards the problem you mention, yes, you are correct. The link mentioned is not generated through the JoomSEF module. To change this behaviour, some changes in Joomla core files would be needed.

We may apply a patch which will solve this quite soon, but it is not priority #1 for us right now, so please be patient.

Best regards,
Jirka.

is this still on the list of future changes? My main entry page can be reached as our-url as well as the our-url/index.php. From seo point of view duplicate content is not good. I have worked around this using the robots.txt blocking the our-url/index.php to stop robots indexing the our-url/index.php page.

Hi,

Last evening I have been playing around with sh404sef which is as Artio an fork from 404sef. For that I removed Artio from our test environment and replaced it with the latest build of sh404sef straight out of the box only enabled using htaccess support nothing else has been changed. It does not create the extra index.php after the domain. I would be very happy if this could be build into Artio SEF ass well. It might not look important but we have a www.domain-name.tld as well as an www.domain-name.tld/index.php both indexed by search enginen, which means it has dupe content.

Another question: would it be possible to have a confirm question on the purge options just to make sure an accidental purge does not happen…..
