Is it possible to assign a permanent itemID number to a component that has no provided sef_ext file?

I am having some links from my bookmarks component (www.tegdesign.ch) open with the wrong template. Setting the itemID has worked great for other components I have had this problem with.

In searching the forums I found several posts that talked about an sef_ext for bookmarks in Artio JoomSEF but strangely each of the zip files that accompanied those posts were empty of any data. For example:

Can I assign an itemID to a component without an sef_ext plugin installed?
