installed the component on joomla 1.0.10 - this message appears when trying to reach either frontend or backend - what went wrong:

================

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, admin and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache Server at anwa.w4y.at Port 80

Hello,

sorry to hear that.

However, apache's Internal Server Error (code 500) is mostly related to some problem in your .htaccess file (or other apache configuration problem). Please check it and if you do not find any problems, you may post it here.

do you mean the htaccess-file in the main-directory of the joomla-installation?

i do not have a .htaccess there - there is only a htaccess.txt - could this have been my mistake?

Hello,

so that could be the problem. You need to to rename the htaccess.txt to .htaccess and make the needed adjustments in this file. Please, see the documentation for further details.

In bried, if you are using apache, just set correct RewrtieBase and uncomment the field needed for 3rd party SEF extensions. (almost at the end of the file).

Thank it should work fine for you.

Ruined my site with testing ARTIO JoomSEF 17 years, 1 month ago #3183

Hi,

I managed to ruin my site. Decided to try JoomSEF, but couldn't make it work properly, so I decided to disable SEF in global configuration and in component and uninstalled the JoomSEF component. First the frontend went down, but at some point backend also. Now the situation is following - with .htaccess file in root directory I get this error message:
Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /index.php on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

When I rename .htaccess back to htaccess.txt the error message is following:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I have also Gallery 2 installed in subdomain and this is also down with .htaccess in home directory. With htaccess.txt the gallery is working.

Any ideas, what went wrong and how to get my site up and running again?

TJ,

I have seen on some servers that you can not just rename .htaccess once it's been created. Double check that your rename took and if it didn't, just delete all of the contents of the file and then save it.
