# READ THIS COMPLETELY IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE THIS FILE
#
# The line just below this section: 'Options FollowSymLinks' may cause problems
# with some server configurations. It is required for use of mod_rewrite, but may already
# be set by your server administrator in a way that dissallows changing it in
# your .htaccess file. If using it causes your server to error out, comment it out (add # to
# beginning of line), reload your site in your browser and test your sef url's. If they work,
# it has been set by your server administrator and you do not need it set here.
#
# Only use one of the two SEF sections that follow. Lines that can be uncommented
# (and thus used) have only one #. Lines with two #'s should not be uncommented
# In the section that you don't use, all lines should start with #
#
# For Standard SEF, use the standard SEF section. You can comment out
# all of the RewriteCond lines and reduce your server's load if you
# don't have directories in your root named 'component' or 'content'
#
# If you are using a 3rd Party SEF or the Core SEF solution
# uncomment all of the lines in the '3rd Party or Core SEF' section

# SPECIAL NOTE FOR SMF USERS WHEN SMF IS INTEGRATED AND BRIDGED

# In both the 'Standard SEF', and '3rd Party or Core SEF' sections the line:
# RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^(/component/option,com) [NC,OR] ##optional - see notes##
# May need to be uncommented. If you are running your Joomla! from
# a subdirectory the name of the subdirectory will need to be inserted into this
# line. For example, if your Joomla! is in a subdirectory called '/test/',
# change this:
# RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^(/component/option,com) [NC,OR] ##optional - see notes##
# to this:
# RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^(/test/component/option,com) [NC,OR] ##optional - see notes##

I read the introduction, but I couldn't activate SEF in the Backend off SEF. After I clicked continue after installing the component I got Error 500.

I changed configuration.php to SEF='1' instead of zero.
I looked at the FAQ of my host and found some hints to change the path to an absolute path, but it didn't work.

What else do I have to change?

My host is Strato and he is using Apache 1.3.37, Magic quotes is off, everything else is enabled, each folder has permission 755

what can I do?

Re:500 again... 17 years ago #3413

I tested a lot and noticed, that everything in the .htaccess file is causing a 500 error, even rewrite engine on :(

Do I have a chance to get it running, or should I try to deinstall it? And which files must be modified/deleted? I can't access the backend anymore, my only tools left are phpMyAdmin and my ftp client :(

when I remove the files I get the following error:

Warning: main(/home/strato/xxx/includes/version.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /xxx/includes/joomla.php on line 71

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/strato/xxx/includes/version.php' (include_path='.:/opt/RZphp4/includes') in /xxx/includes/joomla.php on line 71

why does require_once( $mosConfig_absolute_path . '/includes/version.php' ); cause such an error, although the required file is in this folder. And what does (include_path='.:/opt/RZphp4/includes') mean?

Re:500 again... 17 years ago #3414

Thread can be closed. I uploaded a backup and just don't install SEF, I don't really need it :D

Several thing to check:

1. check that Rewriting is enabled at your web server
2. check your RewriteBase -- should it really be /joom/?
3. whenever getting 500, this means the web server or .htaccess configuration is wrong -- so ether there is some type, wrong characters or simply rewriting is not supported
