TOPIC: New Strip Characters not working

New Strip Characters not working 11 years, 2 months ago #41369

Hi to the Joomsef team !

I have a small problem with the strip characters. I am currently updating my website from 1.5 to 3.0. Not that many problems except that the urls now don't use a "-" to replace this one ' . (Hard to see maybe)

The point is that in french, this ', is quite useful and used in around 500 urls on my website. So I have 500 urls with this case :

Used to be like this : etudier-a-l-etranger/erasmus
and it's now like this : etudier-a-letranger/erasmus

I don't want to do 500 redirections 301, so I tried to ask Joomsef to do add ' as a strip character to be replaced by -.

But it just doesn't work. Here is my updated list of strip characters : '|,|~|!|@|%|^|*|(|)|+|<|>|:|;|{|}|[|]|---|--|..|.

Only the first one is new, but it is not taken into account.

Any idea ?

Thanks a lot for your help !

Hi,

The Strip characters option means that the characters are removed without any replacement.

Maybe the problem is that you use Alias field as the source for your SEF URLs. Check the Aliases of your articles whether they're different on your 3.0 site than they were on your 1.5 site.

I cheked and they are not any different from 1.5 to 3.0.

I asked to use the full title for the URL, so I am not even sure it matters in the conception of the url.

I really have no idea why the ' is not replaced by - .

Is there any way to fix it ? Can't you write it in the htaccess or something else as a rule ?

Thanks a lot for your help.
