TOPIC: 404 error

Re: 404 error 11 years, 11 months ago #35045

The interesting thing is that I have some websites already on the same server and they are performing excellent with JoomSEF - nordicheartbeat.comnordicheartbeat.com but it seems like mine has some trouble. I enabled the .htaccess in Joomsef and it seems like it only consist of the "RewriteBase /"

If the .htaccess consists only the RewriteBase /, URLs rewriting can't work. You can use the default Joomla's htaccess easily - just rename the htaccess.txt to .htaccess in your website's root directory.

I cannot change the name of my htaccess.txt to .htaccess. don't know why, but I asked support for some help with that. My htaccess.txt looks like that:

##
# @package Joomla
# @copyright Copyright (C) 2005 - 2012 Open Source Matters. All rights reserved.
# @license GNU General Public License version 2 or later; see LICENSE.txt
##

##
# READ THIS COMPLETELY IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE THIS FILE!
#
# The line just below this section: 'Options +FollowSymLinks' may cause problems
# with some server configurations. It is required for use of mod_rewrite, but may already
# be set by your server administrator in a way that dissallows changing it in
# your .htaccess file. If using it causes your server to error out, comment it out (add # to
# beginning of line), reload your site in your browser and test your sef url's. If they work,
# it has been set by your server administrator and you do not need it set here.
##

## Can be commented out if causes errors, see notes above.
Options +FollowSymLinks

## Mod_rewrite in use.

Yes, this is the default Joomla's htaccess file. It should work with JoomSEF correctly.

Depending on your server's configuration you may need to comment out the following line:
Options +FollowSymLinks

and uncomment this line:
# RewriteBase /
