I m a bit confused about your answer on this question, in your specs it says the paid version does support payment gateways (www.artio.net/book-it/editions-comparison).
Anyway, this might not be 100% relevant for me, I only need to set up Credit Card payments. How do I do this? I have added "Credit Card" to the payment methods and I can fill in a "code". What code is this and where do I get it?

Steven: I am not Artio staff only a user like you but I would gess the code is something you have to get from a service provider that gives you such services as credit card payment. It's not a direct communication between Artio and the credit card payment. Often services like this require some kind of partner deal between you and the credit card company or payment service provider. And with Joomla and components there are often modules that has to be installed and then you can set them up to wiork with your component.
I am now talking about Vhow it works with for example Virtue Mart web shop solution and different payment options.
I would guess it is something like this that has to be imoplemented also with Artio Book it!
But again why don't you use PayPal, try to convince the client of yours that PayPal offers direct payment via creditcard as well as login users with PayPal account. The only flipside to this is that they charge you a small fee on all transactions... but that can always be included in the price for the products.

Why aren't Artio replying to this?

You should publish payment method in payments method manager.
Then customer during reservation fills credit card data.
This data are stored into table jos_booking_creditcards.
That all what component offers.
Next is question of custom using of credit card (verifying of credit card via bank gate etc.)

Thanks for getting back to me, I have Credit Card set up and activated but when the customer makes a reservation he can not fill in any details. Please see attached pic of the settings

also then how do I set up Pay Pal?

PayPal is easy, just fill in your PayPal account email and check the publish radio button and save it.
Of course you have to check the box in front of PayPal in the Payment Methods manager and then Edit before you can do this, or click the PayPal logo and then the Edit button.
That should be it. If you got a real PayPal account that takes care of the rest.
