Sorry, but I need to push this up again - I really need a way to get my module (or component, I do not really care anymore) create those links according to the treestructure my menu has. This will be the last step before being able to release the first stable version of "treesite"...

I could make the component insert stuff into the database - this would not be the real problem, but first of all this would be a dirty trick and secondary it would melt the plugins together, cause I do not know if JoomSEF is allready installed (is there a good way to check if JoomSEF is installed?) and it wouldn't work if JoomSEF is installed after my component and module.

If there is no other way I will have to make my component creating the sef-links but I am pretty sure this will cause problems...

I do not know much bout your site - nor did you say what particular error appeared - so I can only tell you which problem I had and how i solved it:

As I set up JoomSEF with my installation at a server i access by IP while the server already has a name I found out, that using the IP when the server knows its name leads to the following:

JoomlaSEF and JoomSEF activated
accessing xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/jom/ => Works
accessing xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/jom => leads to redirection loop

JoomlaSEF activated and JoomSEF deactivated
accessing xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/jom/ works as before
accessing xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/jom => leads me to server.name/jom/

since I had to use the IP for special reasons I changed the name of the server into its IP-Adress and everything worked quite well since that.

If you experiance infinite loops while accessing your site with enabled JoomSEF just try disabling JoomSEF and look what happens with the URL when you access your folder without tailing slash.

I hope this could be of any helo to you.

Hi,
I am creating a new menu module (with fitting component to create a treelike structure which is not based on sections and categories but on pages (I use static pages for that purpose), links and folders [where everything can be a parent from another item] )

Since I do not use sections and categories anymore I'd have to set up the sef-urls by hand (or have a flat url where every item is in the root folder - which doesn't really help with sef)

Is there any possibility I can make the module tell JoomSEF how a new created sefurl should look like?

Or is there a good way to make the component do that when inserting new items (this would be less prefered - If one changes something via direct database access this would not work anymore... and I think I am not the only one to do those stuff (I know it isn't the fine way, but somtimes its a much more efficient way to do things...

I'd really like to be able to say it works with JoomSEF out of the box... but I can not until I have a solution to build up links based on my treelike stucture...
