Yes, if you want to use page titles set in JoomSEF, the "Prefer JoomSEF titles" option must be enabled.
You can also set "Metadata auto-generation" to "No" so the meta tags will never be generated automatically.
Using JoomSEF's Meta Tags Manager make sure that only the URLs you want to control page titles for have the meta title set and other URLs have empty meta title. Empty meta title in JoomSEF means that the original page title from Joomla will be used.

Thank Dajo, I see how I can make that work! Only one issue... I have over 2000 articles (in the Meta Tags Manager) that have Titles. Is there a quick or easy way to mass delete all of the existing titles that I don't want JoomSEF to use? According to your instructions, I need all of them empty except for the ones that I want to manually place.

How can I delete all of those titles without doing it manually one by one?

Unfortunately, there's no function for that in JoomSEF. But you can mass delete them by running an SQL query in your database:



Replace the (prefix) part in the SQL with your Joomla tables prefix. This delete all the URLs titles.

Of course make sure to backup your website before doing this!
