TOPIC: Links give 404 errors

Links give 404 errors 17 years, 8 months ago #2008

I know there a billion of these posts - but none of the fixes have worked so I feel like I'm chasing my tail.

I have a new site at www.bsbcareers.com/v2/

My home page loads but none of the links work. What am I missing??? (I'm going to have a coniption fit if I can't get this working. :-)

My .htaccess looks like this:

# @package Joomla

# The line just below this section: 'Options +FollowSymLinks' may cause problems
# with some server configurations. It is required for use of mod_rewrite, but may already
# be set by your server administrator in a way that dissallows changing it in
# your .htaccess file. If using it causes your server to error out, comment it out (add # to
# beginning of line), reload your site in your browser and test your sef url's. If they work,
# it has been set by your server administrator and you do not need it set here.
#
# Only use one of the two SEF sections that follow. Lines that can be uncommented
# (and thus used) have only one #. Lines with two #'s should not be uncommented
# In the section that you don't use, all lines should start with #

# For Standard SEF, use the standard SEF section. You can comment out
# all of the RewriteCond lines and reduce your server's load if you
# don't have directories in your root named 'component' or 'content'
#
# If you are using a 3rd Party SEF or the Core SEF solution
# uncomment all of the lines in the '3rd Party or Core SEF' section

# In both the 'Standard SEF', and '3rd Party or Core SEF' sections the line:

Hey, I just checked out your site. It looks like you got everything working. I think I'm having the same problem as you. What did you do to fix that problem.

Re:Links give 404 errors 17 years, 8 months ago #2022

My httpd.conf file needed to have "AllowOverride ALL" added for the VHOST that I was trying to get it to work in.

Re:Links give 404 errors 17 years, 8 months ago #2028

Excuse, can you post the part of httpd.conf you changed

Re:Links give 404 errors 17 years, 8 months ago #2032

Is the httpd.config related to your server? Or is it a config within Joomla? if so where is it located?

Hello,

httpd.conf (or similar) file is mostly located in the configuration directory of your web server. On linux systems, this will mostly be /etc/httpd or /etc/apache.

However, your site is located at web-hosting company, you may not have access to this file. In such case, you should check with the system administrator to confirm, that the rules in .htacess will work correctly.
