I am struggling in getting the redirect to work... When my visitors open /page1, I want them to be redirected to /page2.

So I created a 301 redirect from page1 to page2. But it won't work. When they open page1 they stay on page1.

Do I have to do anything else also to make this work?

If the /page1 also exists, then the 301 redirect is not triggered, since this function was meant to be used differently, when we've implemented it. You can use the 301 redirection in the .htaccess file which you can create just as easily on the Edit .htaccess page in JoomSEF - just create a redirection from /page1 to /page2 there (with the slashes).
