Hi,
I installed JoomSEF succesfully, including the virtuemart extension. All works well with the exception of generating the sitemap. I have marked 'indexed' and saved. When I press Generate XML I get the following error message:

Error Generating XML: Cannot create the specified XML file.

Help is welcome. Thanks in advance.

JoomSEF: 3.6.1
PHP: 2.11.6

Solved.
The solution for me was that Sitemap.xml file could not be made. The location of sitemap.xml (or whatever specified name) is in the root by default. This is mysite/public_html. The root is protected from writing (map attributes). So any new xml can not be written.
What I did is upload my local sitemap.xml to the server. On the server I changed the file attributes of sitemap.xml. Then I went to the Joomla backed, JoomSEF sitemap: pressed Generate XML and it works without problem.

i did follow your steps but it doesn't work as far as I can see. The error message is still there. I assume I can't change the CHMOD attributes - if I change them and check it after, they're again in default mode. I have my joomla installation in root/joomla, so I should create a xml file in my joomla folder, right?

yes that is correct. You need to make sure Joomla will have permission to create the sitemap.xml file there.
Maybe the default permissions at your servier prohibit this.

well, it seems I can't change the permissions, so I think it's maybe easier to change the code of the artio extensions, so the sitemap.xml will have another path to save.

Where should I need to look in the code to change that?

well sitemap.xml should always be stored in the root as that is where bots are usually looking for it. Of course e.g. with Google, you are able to submit virtually any file, however, other robots might not find it, so I would recommend not to relocate it.

Guess changing the permissions should not be as big problem???
