I had to install a 3part extension because my website was not set for canonicalization....... artio joomsef did not do it automatically.

I have also this unsolved problem so far:

Do you recommend to reinstall artio?

(as regards your other problem - what is your JoomSEF version?)

Well,

I set "Automatic canonical link generation" optin to "yes" but a diagnosis report from told me that the cononicalization was not set.. so I have installed "plg-system-jfinalizer" and "plg System - Canonicalization"

Now, canonical links are set.

What do you say about this?

well, sorry but I jave no idea what report you are talking about and how it works and what are you trying to achieve. Neither I know the plugins you mention.

Anyway, just in general, having a canonical link set for each URL is also not always (or maybe mostly) desired condition. Effective use of canonical links cannot be automated easily and should be done with good knowledge of how it works and what should the logics behind, so I am not quite sure how that report you mention works.

The canonical link is generated only for pages with nonSEF variables present (which is written in the information for the function). So it does not work on homepage in general. It works only for pages like:
domain.tld/some-site?somevariable=somevalue

In that case it sets the canonical link to "domain.tld/some-site".

rel canonical must be first than www.
