Hi.

It would be absoulutely GREAT if ArtioSEF would support the functionality shumisha has implemented.

Im not aware of any other SEF component for Joomla that works with Joomfish in this way.

Thank you very much for your valuable contribution, shumisha.

ArtioSEF team congratulations for great component and keep up the good work.

Kind regards,
kenjueke.

Hello All,

I had prepared a project on the forge for this, so if you want to give it a try, you can download the component at :

forge.joomla.org/sf/go/projects.sh404sef...h404sef.sh404sef_0_9

However, please note that I do not intend to maintain this component. I use it now because it does what I need, but I'd rather leave the people from ARTIO (or OpenSEF for that matter) this very difficult task.

@ARTIO. Please feel free to review the changes I may have made and integrate them if you feel it is helpful. You should run a search on 'shumisha' within the files, as I have marked all changes made with a '// shumisha' string

Hi all,

Thanks to all for your work so far. I have been looking for some time for SEF + multilingual
combination, but nothing worked so far.

Shumisha, I have tested a bit your new SEF404 with Joomfish and it looks like it is doing a good job, just what I was looking for.

I understand your lack of time, so I would at lest like a few advices from you for the issues that still bother me, if possible.

1. Meta tags. Can it be possible to have different keywords and description for same translated item in different languages? Is there any hack or something like that that could work with your new implementation?

2. Would it be possible to turn off the en/ de/ in URLs ? From my point of view they are not nedeed when URLs for every content item are different anyway, based on language when translated. Besides, I think from Google point of view, the dipper in directories you go, the page is less important. So you get one more directory with en/ or de/. Am I right?

Thank you very much for answer,

Hvar

Hello hvar,

thanks for taking the time to test this. I do not want to take up ARTIO forum space to discuss something that is not their responsability. However, I can clarify the following :

1 - Meta tags : I have not looked into it, but I doubt it is complicated to have it translated. however, this would be a core hack I believe. Again, I have not looke into it
2 - having en, de being optional : well I started by having them mandatory, because it was simpler. Not because of the code, but mainly because it would require changing the admin interface, and I am definetely not familiar with that.
When this was working, I thought I would work to make it optional, as well as making translated titles an option as well, because in some languages (using non latin characters) it is best to have another language in URLs. And two days later, ARTIO released version 1.2.5 which had all of this. So I decided it was not worth going any further with this, as they have done a very goog job at improving the code.
As a side note, please keep in mind however, that it means that all titles and their translations should be diiferent for this to work properly, otherwise you may have URLs like www.domain.com/joomla.html and www.domain.com/joomla-2.html, just because the title is Joomla and it is the same in all languages.
So basically, my version is there for anyone to use it in a site, or maybe for ARTIO to include some parts if they feel like doing so. But I think my version is not clean enough, and soon they will have fixed the few glitches that may be left.

By the way, two more comments :

- I have made the french tranlsation file for version 1.2.4, you'll find it in the language subdir
- i forgot to mention that I had to slightly modify the Joomfish selection module for this to work. I will upload the file to th forge in the next minute. Without this, the flags links are not valid and you cannot swith language properly.
