I have just installed JoomSEF 3.1.2 but when I go to my website the browser comes up with following error message:

"Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@localhost and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log."

After installing JoomSEF 3.1.2 it also created a .htaccess file in my Joomla. Now I got both a file called htaccess.txt and a file called .htaccess. It also came up with following rapport:

Please check that the RewriteBase directive path is set correctly and matches your configuration.



What has gone wrong and why does it not work?

Hello,

I've already replied in e-mail:
"Please, check that your server hosting allows the .htaccess file usage and that it has the mod_rewrite installed in Apache."

My webhost is Gigahost which has just confirmed that they course, both have htaccess and mod_rewrite enabled for all servers.

I have tried to do the same install procedure on my webshop located on my local WAMP server. Here the probleme is the same. The only thing changing anything is if I delete .htaccess file so I can enter the site again both frontend and backend - and even open ARTIO JoomSEF component in the backend. But it is surely not what is supposed to be?

Could it perhaps instead be something in htaccess.txt to be amended?
Or perhaps a combination of things in both. htaccess and htaccess.txt to be amended?

The htaccess.txt file does not have any effect on configuration. It's there just as an example of how the real .htaccess file should look like.
In your .htaccess, try commenting out the DirectoryIndex index.php line. If that doesn't help, try using the default htaccess.txt configuration instead of the one created by JoomSEF. Also, try disabling JoomSEF and make the standard Joomla's SEO work first. If that doesn't work, please, discuss the .htaccess file content with your webhost.
