TOPIC: How to rewrite category names? Open/Joom Migration

How to rewrite category names? Open/Joom Migration 16 years, 5 months ago #4395

I finally rolled the dice and migrated my site with thousands of URLs over to JoomSEF from OpenSEF. For the most part things seem to have gone well and I am totally impressed with the apparent speed increase that I see already with JoomSEF. I have one major problem though and I do not have any idea how to fix it in JoomSEF:

I have hundreds of links, hand coded into about forty articles, that point to files such as this:

www.musicedmagic.com/docdownload/task,doc_download/gid,752/

all of these hard coded links are coming up as 404 errors even though they worked on the old OpenSEF version of the site. I tried to go into the JoomSEF 301 URL creation and set:

www.musicedmagic.com/free-downloads
to point to
www.musicedmagic.com/docdownload

I even went into Custom Redirects and set:

index.php?option=com_docman&Itemid=54
to point to
docdownload

But neither of these seem to work. I cannot bear the thought of going in and changing hundreds of URLS by hand in these articles. What am I doing wrong and how can I get it to redirect properly?

This is on a Joomla 1.0.13 setup running the most recent version of JoomSEF.

Hello,

JoomSEF doesn't understand the /task,doc_download/ convention. It can understand either the standar Joomla format (web/component/docdownload/task,doc_download/gid,752/) or it's own format, but you can't mix both - so it can't translate one part of URL using SEF redirection table and the other part as /task,doc_download/ => task=doc_download.

If you don't want to all the hard coded links, maybe you can try to create rewrite rules in .htaccess for changing /task,doc_download/ to task=doc_download.
