TOPIC: Maintain SEF URLs migrating JoomSEF 4 to ZOO ext

Maintain SEF URLs migrating JoomSEF 4 to ZOO ext 11 years, 11 months ago #35341

I have a website with 400 or so blog entries currently created as 'Articles' in Joomla 2.5 using JoomSEF 4 for SEF URLs. I've installed ZOO 3.0 and I am thinking about importing all of the Joomla Articles into it as 'Posts' and using the ZOO 3.0 Blog tool going forward. I see you guys have an extension to make ZOO url's SEF as well. This brings me to my question:

What is the best way to keep the SEF URL's I currently have 100% intact in JoomSEF 4 and 'migrate' them to ZOO 3.0 using the ZOO extension?

Hi,

You should configure the Zoo extension to produce the same SEF URLs as currently your Content extension does for your articles - so set the same options for categories or menu title being added to URLs etc. When you migrate your articles to Zoo, you should delete their URLs using JoomSEF's URLs Manager and new URLs for Zoo posts will be generated automatically when you browse your website.

I'd recommend you to create a subdomain with a copy of your website (for example using Akeeba Backup) for testing before you do this on your production website.

So there is no way to import the JoomSEF URL's into the ZOO extension? It's just left to hoping it recreates the 2000 URLs the same way as the site is browsed?

Well you can't "import" SEF URLs to another JoomSEF extension because the real non-SEF URLs are different. You would have to modify the non-SEF URLs stored in database to match the ones generated by Zoo component. Theoretically it could be possible with a custom script, but there could be problems with articles IDs and Itemids in the URLs.
