What is the best practice to create a sitemap for a large website? I'm trying to get this job done, but unfortunately, I didn't succeed.

Automatic SEF URLs: 159033 "for the moment.. this should be >1 million very soon whenever the site is crawled"

Please tell me what should I do in this case.

Hi,

Some JoomSEF extensions eg. the Content extension allows you to set which of its URLs should be automatically included in the sitemap file - go to JoomSEF -> Manage Extensions -> Content -> SiteMap page. This can save you big amount of time not having to set those manually.

Then just use the Generate XML button in JoomSEF's Sitemap Manager like you normally would.

Of course with that many URLs there may be problems with allowed memory limit and script execution time, so maybe you will need to increase those on your web server.

Please also note that JoomSEF currently doesn't support splitting sitemap XML to multiple files, so the maximum number of URLs you can add to your sitemap is 50,000 - Google can't handle more in one sitemap file.
