TOPIC: 404 error

404 error 12 years, 1 month ago #34027

Dear all,

I have just installed JoomSef on my private website. (www.dariuszcydejko.com)
After lucky installation I have made a setup in the global configuration changing the SEO settings -
Search Engine Friendly URLs to "yes" and Use URL rewriting "yes"

I have even enabled .htaccess in the domain root. Everything looked fantastic, to the time when entering the website from front-end and choosing any other menu category beside of the "HOME"
Unfortunately any menu items and articles are not visible. Problem changes when I disable Search Engine Friendly URLs, but it doesn't solve the problem when I want to use JoomSEF on my website.

Do you have any clue or ideas what the problem may be?

Looking forward hearing from you.

Hi,

What do you mean by menu items and articles not being visible? They're not displayed on your website? And what about the 404 error in the topic title?

The problem appears when I enable JoomSEF and change the Search Engine Friendly URLs to "yes" and Use URL rewriting "yes".

Now the 404 appears when I enter the website. Doesn't matter what I want to do is 404.
Before at least the "home" was visible. Now nothing. The problem disappears when Search Engine Friendly URLs are setup on "no"...

I have no idea how to solve the problem.

This is usually caused by wrong configuration of the .htaccess file.

Please check that the .htaccess is enabled on your website and that it uses correct RewriteBase if your Joomla is installed in a subdirectory.

I just bouht the fill version of JoomSef4 and after installation the problem is still the same. .htaccess is enabled.
Only the main page is ok. after clicking on any menu the 404 appears. looks like joomsef doest't link link or something. I'm not a specialist. Would like you to advise me how to solve the problem, please.

Hi,
Check that you have mod_rewrite module running on your web server and check if your web host supports the .htaccess files.
If that doesn't help, post your .htaccess file so I can check whether there's some obvious problem.
Does your website run Apache or IIS web server?
