I use 4.5.1 on Joomla 3.3.0. I have my site in 4 languages and also use the standard Joomla redirect plugin.

In Artio Control Panel under "404 Page" tab I have set the option (Front)Page for the 404 Page to show.

However when I type a non-existing url Joomla shows the Dummy article for some reason instead of the homepage.

Why is this? Anybody an idea?

This may be caused by the "Parse Joomla SEO links" option being enabled in JoomSEF's Configuration on the Advanced tab.
When it's enabled, JoomSEF tries to parse non-existent URLs by standard Joomla SEF system first, so it is possible that Joomla parses it partially and JoomSEF then thinks that the URL exists and let Joomla display its page.
You can try disabling the option to see if it helps. However please note that disabling the option prevents Component's router and Default Joomla router handlers from working correctly for JoomSEF extensions (you can check if you use them on Manage Extensions page in JoomSEF).

Do you have a multilanguage website? According to our tests the option should work correctly, except for the case, when you have a mutlilanguage website and a non-existent URL doesn't contain the language code.

Yes I have a multi language website.

In my case it doesn't work with or without the language code in the non-existent url.
