What SQL error is reported? Or is it the same as before with the "Unknown column 'host'"?

The SQL query probably wasn't run correctly. Can you confirm using phpMyAdmin that the jos_sefurls table in your database really contains the host column?
I don't think that JoomSEF could affect how the calendar is displayed.

yeah the host column is there just nothing in it..... I am thinking of just uninstalling and re-installing jevents to see if this will help, can't work it out.

Host column can be empty, it's used only for subdomains. Are you sure you're working with correct database? If the column is really there, MySQL shouldn't display an error that it's missing.
