I have been using a component called 404 Redirect for Artio JoomSEF for many years now (I think it was written back in 2007) to fix duplicate URL errors without giving the viewer a 404 page.

It stripped off the -1 or -whatever from the URL and redirected it to the original document. I am now working toward migrating to Joomla 1.7 and was wondering if this extra component is even necessary any more? Is this functionality now rolled into JoomSEF in some way?

You can choose not to create URLs with -2 etc. in JoomSEF, but it seems that the component has more features not included in JoomSEF, namely:

• Extract title from URL then automatically search and redirect to content item.
• Automatic redirect to search results

so it could be useful.
