Hello. Currently it is not possible. We can add this feature in future or as part of paid support.
Just to be clear: if you will select "final price" and click on "recompute base price", it is like backward process of now. So based on calculation rules for item (taxes, discounts..) base price will be created to make final price you want. Is it correct behavior? Thanks.

In virtuemart works this way:
I enter the gross price and I click on recalculate.
Automatically inserts the net price.
