Hi there I've setup canonical links to appear but I can't seem to find any reference to them.

I have for instance 3 separate URLs pointing to something like www.mysite.com/myproduct

the URLs are something like

index.php?option=com_virtuemart&category_id=13&flypage=flypage.tpl&manufacturer_id=1&page=shop.product_details&product_id=110&Itemid=142

index.php?option=com_virtuemart&category_id=25&flypage=flypage.tpl&manufacturer_id=1&page=shop.product_details&product_id=110&Itemid=160

index.php?option=com_virtuemart&category_id=62&flypage=flypage.tpl&manufacturer_id=1&page=shop.product_details&product_id=110&Itemid=200

I cannot see any refernece to <link rel="canonical" in my source anywhere

is there something I'm missing


My Joomla version is 1.5.23
Artio version is 3.9.5

Have you set the canonical links manually for each URL using JoomSEF's URLs Manager?
Check that you have "Enable Meta Tags management" option set to "Yes" in JoomSEF's Configuration on the Title and Meta Tags tab.

No I jhave not set them manually should they not apear automatically? I do have Enable Meta Tags management set to yes

The automatic canonical links generation works only for SEF URLs with some non-SEF variables present, so if you visit URL like:
www.domain.com/some/sef-url?var=value
then the canonical link is generated linking to pure SEF URL www.domain.com/some/sef-url

If you want canonical links from one SEF URL linking to another, you need to set them manualyl using JoomSEF's URLs Manager - edit the SEF URL and on the Meta Tags tab set the desired canonical link.

Yes but were using Virtuemart - so all the links have variables in them. if you look at my urls in the 1st post - have have "page=shop.product" for example

Yes, but they're not SEF URLs. JoomSEF can generate canonical links only for SEF URLs that it has stored in its database, eg. if you had a SEF URL to some category created in JoomSEF like:
/shop/category.html
and there were non-SEF variables for pagination appended like:
/shop/category.html?limitstart=20
then the canonical link would be automatically generated linking to main page of that category (/shop/category.html).
