ANYWAY
I am currently 301 redirecting old URLs to new.

Is the Managing SEF URLS > Aliases ok to use for this (does it 301 properly to the new url) and will Google eventually change the URL..... or should I simply use the htaccess to do the 301s?

I read the manual, page 50 under 8.3 SEF URLs Aliases - but I am still unsure

Hi,

Yes, you can use Aliases for this, as they're redirected using 301 header. From Google's point of view there's no difference between it and .htaccess redirects, as the HTML header that's used for the redirect is the same.
