my colleague was testing this yesterday... he tested it with the same template, versions and setting combinations you are using at your site in our own testing site and it works fine there.
We also noticed your site has some modifications... so I think there may be some customization causing this.

I am afraid the only option to resolve this would be then doing more extensive debugging on your site to find what is causing this to be disfuctional. (there may be e.g. also conflict with other plugin)

However, as this does not seem to be bug in JoomSEF, we could continue the research only as a paid support. Would you be interested?

Thanks for the investigation, indeed, I tried on another copy of my site (kind of stage environment), I cannot reproduce the issue even after copying the customized php file in the stage environment, I might have to redo another cleaner install of my site.
