TOPIC: Installation/Beginner Help - Multiple Errors

Installation/Beginner Help - Multiple Errors 14 years, 5 months ago #11427

Order Number: 9192

I have checked the FAQ. The file I downloaded was com_joomsef3.zip today. I know I have a Joomla version > 1.5 but don't know where to check for the exact one.

I am porting our website to Joomla. The old urls have .aspx in them. I need to forward them to the new pages. I bought JoomSEF today. I couldn't install from an upload of the zip because the right library wasn't installed. I installed it from a directory after multiple error messages relating to permissions. I tried to make the folder for it and it errored out on that to. Finally, it said it was installed even though it also said there was an error - the GB-US language file for administration wasn't installed. I manually copied that file over. When I went into JoomSEF configuration it gave administrator/cache file errors, I changed the permission on that directory. All this is by way if saying, I have already had a lot of headache with installing this.

Here are my current issues:
1) The configuration checklist says I should make sure it is turned on in the site global configuration file. If I go to the Joomla Global Configuration file I see no option for JoomSEF anywhere.
2) On the JoomSEF Control Panel Page in the SEF Status box it states JoomSEF plugin is Disabled and there is an Enable button next to it. When I click to enable it, nothing changes.
3) I have added 1 entry under 301 redirect (and nothing else). Now, when I go to the page that should be redirected it goes to a 404 page. But it is not the 404 page language of the JoomSEF Configuration 404 page.

Please help.

Hello,
sorry to hear that, but I think that not having the site / server configured in proper way to run Joomla is not reason to complain about installation difficulties.

Ad your problems:
1) the easies is to check at the JoomSEF Control Panel, as you probably did
2) this can be caused by that nonstandard way of installation - make sure the JoomSEF plugin is installed
3) if plugin is not active then JoomSEF will not function properly

I would recommend you setting correct permissions on all directories as required by Joomla, deleting current JoomSEF files and DB tables and reinstalling it properly from the package.
