TOPIC: Upgrade from Joomla 1.0. to Joomla V1.5

Upgrade from Joomla 1.0. to Joomla V1.5 15 years, 4 months ago #7763

Sirs,

I am in the process of upgrading from Joomla 1.0 to 1.5. I am using ArtioJoomSEF for my SEF URL's. on my Joomla 1.0 site, i have JoomSEF 2.3.4 and I have JoomSEF 3.34 on my Joomla 1.5 site. I have the Virtuemart paid extension for both the sites. I was wondering if there is an easy way of migrating the SEF URL's from the Joomla 1.0 site to the 1.5 site, without having to go through about 1000 URL's? Is there a SQL script or something that I could run? I am asking this as I want the Joomla 1.5 site to have the same URL's as the Joomla 1.0 site so that the migration is fluid!

Any advise appreciated

Yes, it is possible. Please, follow this procedure:

1. Install JoomSEF to your new Joomla 1.5 installation and remove jos_sefurls table using Phpmyadmin or some other tool

2. Copy jos_redirection table from your old Joomla 1.0 to your new Joomla 1.5 installation and rename it to jos_sefurls (you have to have latest JoomSEF 3.x)

3. Rename newurl column to sefurl and oldurl column to origurl

4. Add column canonicallink (varchar(255))

You should have working urls now. If you will have some trouble, let me know.

Ok thanks for the info.

Could you possibly tell me what the syntax for copying the table in Joomla 1.0 to the table in the Joomla 1.5 is? I'd rather get it right first time than spend hours surfing on the net and getting nowhere!

The changing the names can that do done by viewing the table structure or is that another SQL statement? If it is the latter, could you advise a statement.

Sorry but I am not up to speed with SQL statements

Everything can be done using PHPMyAdmin. No SQL statements are necessary.
Here is detailed procedure:

1. Select database of Joomla 1.5 installation. To remove jos_sefurls table select it in sidebar on left and click Drop tab (last one).

2. Select database of Joomla 1.0 installation. To copy old jos_redirection table select it in sidebar and hit Export. Make sure both Structure and Data checkboxes are checked and click Go. It should produce some SQL statements.
Select them all and go to database of Joomla 1.5 installation. Click SQL icon in sidebar toolbar and replace text in window with statements from old database. jos_redirection should appear in sidebar.
Select it and choose operations. In table options there is a Rename table to option. Type jos_sefurls and click go.

3. Now go to structure tab and click change icon in newurl column. Type sefurl in Field input and click save. Do the same with oldurl column and rename it to origurl.

4. You should be back on Structure page. Find row with text Add 1 field(s) and click Go. Type canonicallink in Field input, select VARCHAR from Type input and type 255 in Length input.

I did this and followed your instructions. The only thing is that my Joomla 1.0 and 1.5 sites appear to display different URL's for the same page.

Example -

Joomla 1.0 - www.nav-e-gate4less.co.uk/gps-mapping-software/anquet.html

Joomla 1.5 - www.nav-e-gate4less.co.uk/Joomla_V1_5/an...apping-software.html

So how do I get round this without having to edit every single redirected URL?
