TOPIC: JoomSEF Install and 404 Problems

JoomSEF Install and 404 Problems 17 years, 10 months ago #1306

Hello,

I have tried to get JoomSEF installed on my test server without any success and hope someone can see what I am doing wrong. I want to get it working on this server before applying it to my live sites.
The configuration it is operating on is:
Windows XP
Apache/2.0.59 (Win32) PHP/5.2.0 JRun/4.0
Joomla! 1.0.11

The steps I have taken so far are:
1. Fix RG_EMULATION warning in globals.php
2. Activate mod_rewrite in httpd.conf
3. Change .htaccess file to match htaccess.txt
4. Activate "Search Engine Friendly URL's" in Joomla Global Configuration
5. Test basic Joomla SEF is working.
6. Install JoomSEF component.
7. Edit .htaccess file to match config requirements
8. Enable component. (When I go to save or cancel from the configuration file I get a javascript warning asking if I want to purge files. If I click OK the configuration doesn't save, if I cancel the configuration file will save).

At this point the component throws back 404 errors, so...

9. Install rd_addphp mambot
10. Publish mambot
11. Install com_404_redirect component
12. Copy redirection line and paste into JoomSEF 404 message (added to bottom of existing message)

Now I get 404 errors but from within the Joomla template.

I am really lost with this and would appreciate any advice etc.

I have now tried this again on a different computer but running the same configuration and get the same poor results.

I have also tried installing the component online on Linux machines and it worked easily.

Am I missing something? Does JoomSEF just not like XP or is it something else? Please give any tips, advice etc.
