JoomSEF enabled => blank page / nothing at all

Greetings JoomSEF experts,

when JoomSEF is enabled, I get a blank page. Joomla on-board SEF works fine, though. What could be the problem?

I followed the installation instructions to the T, read months back in this forum, I quadruple-checked htaccess for mistakes, and tried virtually every trick I could find, but nothing helps.

I've installed JoomSEF in the past and was able to troubleshoot problems by reading forum posts, but not this time. Is it one of those cases when I'm looking straight at the problem and still can't see it?

Any advice?
