Am new to using JoomSef and really enjoying the program. One problem i am having is with duplicate url being created ... Here is an example

I have a content item called pilates basic principles and have a list of items in a newlsflash section. when you click on the content item I want the original link below to be active:

pilates-basic-principles.html : index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=26

but instead a -2 is created and is the live link below with the item83 added???:

pilates-basic-principles-2.html index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=26&Itemid=83

It changes the target output of where the item is shown when clicked (on the bottom of the pages below the lists instead of by itself in the user1 field.

I have just installed the component and it generated 5100 urls numbered as high as 29 so far. Is this the way the component is designed to work? Is there a user manual other than the pdf how to install?

Is this just too stupid of a question for anyone to answer?

Its an item id problem
when a link appears without an item id (or a different itemid because of multi menu links to same sec/cat) an additional number is appended to the url.

Some modules do not get the itemid.

Unlike other sef components this one will not let you correct things so that they all point to the same url (this url already exists in database!)

The only way I found was to go into phpmyadmin where you can make the correction. (totally impractical)

Maybe the com could be altered to call getItemid if none exists Or let us define which item id we want it to use as default.

Thanks for helping me understand. The link count was growing each time I logged in, last time it was up well over 5500 so I called it quits and reverted to stock sef. I gotta lot to learn...

I use Reys invisible menu which helps a lot

this still can leave me with at most "one" duplicate of each url when a module doesn't pass an item id, but at least I never get 29 duplicates :)

If you need to link a section/category in more than one menu - use link url for everyone after the first. (same way the sample install of Joomla does - look at the way the "top menu" links are done).

You can see where your duplicates are coming from by looking at the internal url in JoomSef then look for the itemid in your menus.
