TOPIC: Problem with multilingual site - FaLang

Problem with multilingual site - FaLang 11 years, 10 months ago #35701

Hi
I have J 2.5.8 running on PHP 5.3.3, CentOS distro.
Website is multilingual. I just installed JS and I can't get it to work with two languages.
If I disable System Language Filter plugin, its impossible to change language.
I use FaLang (Joomfish clone) to manage translations.
JS says FaLang is without SEF extension - whatever that means.

What should I do make this setup work? In JED, there is a sentence saying Joomfish/Falang multilanguage sites are supported.

many thanks
Chris

Hi,
Open JoomSEF's Configuration and on the Language tab make sure you have the JoomSEF language management enabled.

Yes, I've done that, but I forgot to set different domains (in fact - urls) so the language would not switch. This table is a bit misleading since it talks about domain configuration, while in fact what needs to be done is just to add /en at the end of one address.
There is also slight mismatch in few places, especially regarding multi-language configuration, sometimes Joomfish is mentioned, sometimes Falang, but both briefly and without details.
Another issue is, that even if JoomSEF is compatible with FaLang, it lists it in the table "Components without SEF Extension installed" - what causes even more confusion.
So, some cleaning here and there and you'll have 5 stars from me in JED! :)

best regards
Chris

Hi,

If you have "Language integration" set to "include in path" you don't need to use the Domain configuration table at all - it's only useful if you want to have for example www.domain.com for English and www.domain.de for German. You need to have the "Language integration" set to "use different domains", otherwise the Domain configuration table is ignored.

We'll check JoomSEF for JoomFish mentions and fix it.

Thank you also for reporting the "Components without SEF Extension installed" - we'll also fix that in next version.
