TOPIC: edit .htaccess

edit .htaccess 12 years, 7 months ago #29552

I edited the permissions of .htaccess to 666 and am trying to setup some 301 redirects. I save and the page says

"htaccess file was saved successfuly."

But the 301 redirects don't work and when I open .htaccess, the redirects are not there.

What gives?

Hi,

If the 301 Redirects are listed on the Edit .htaccess page in JoomSEF, they must be present in your .htaccess file, because JoomSEF loads them directly from the file. You can use the Advanced Edit button in the toolbar to see the .htaccess content and check if it's the same file.

I am experiencing the same problem, but my 301 redirects are in the htaccess file.

My J1.7 install is in subfolder "A" and I am trying to redirect links from subfolder "B" to "A" without luck.

My setup involves a header redirect in the index.php file to subfolder A where all the J1.7 files are, including the htaccess file. It does not seem that the one htaccess can handle redirects either for the root or subfolder B. Where should the htaccess file be and should more than one htaccess file be used?

Thanks!

You need to use one .htaccess file in subfolder "A" for JoomSEF to work correctly.
Then you should probably use another .htaccess in subfolder "B" to handle redirects from B to A.

Unfortunately, you currently can't, it uses the .htaccess file located in website's root folder.
