Global SEF URLs creates 404 error on every page 12 years, 3 months ago #32248

Been running my site and Artio SEF for several years with very few errors. I have not made any updates to the site or added any new components or modules. Only changes have been new articles that have been added.

But for some reason the site shows "Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at proficiencypost.com Port 80" on every link on the page. I have disabled the SEF statuses and find that the Global SEF URLs in the main problem. If I turn this off then I can get to most links. For now I have turned all off as this is quite an active site and we have many subscribers constantly logging in.

Can you please let me know how I can fix this issue. Or other things I can do to help pin point the problem.

The site is www.proficiencypost.com
Running Joomla 1.5.26 and Artio SEF 3.9.8 All other SEF extentions are up to date.

Many thanks

Wicko

Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this. Took backup of site and purged URLs but this didn't make any difference.
I currently have Global SEF URLs turned off because when this is on then the site does not work.

Hello,

The 404 error on SEF links usually means that there's some problem with your .htaccess file. Check that your .htaccess file contains correct rules for SEF URLs rewriting, or try using default Joomla's .htaccess file (rename htaccess.txt from Joomla root to .htaccess).

Hi dajo
Thank for pointing me to the .htaccess.
I have found that my .htaccess has been hacked. Restored it and all ok. But then it got hacked again. Managed to locate the time and files that were being used to hack into the site. Deleted the files and put a block on the IP that was being used to hack the site.
Looks like this version of Joomla is vulnerable. Big task to upgrade entire site but looks like it might have to be done.

wicko: I'm glad the 404 problem is fixed, but I'm sorry for your troubles with hackers. Hopefully updating Joomla will solve that too.

arko2010:
The easiest way to set up your .htaccess file is to rename the htaccess.txt from Joomla root to .htaccess. Usually this should work without any modifications.
If it doesn't, check the 2.3.1 .htaccess file section in our documentation: www.artio.net/joomsef/documentation#d4e130 - main .htaccess directives are described there.
