TOPIC: Install Error during upgrade

Install Error during upgrade 12 years, 5 months ago #30937

Hi -

I'm trying to update JoomSEF4 from 4.2.6 to 4.2.7 using the Extension Manager: Update page in Joomla 2.5. When I try to update, I get the message "Invalid Extension Update" and the update does not occur.

So, I downloaded 4.2.7 and tried to do it manually. Then I get the error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function data() on a non-object in /home/signonhg/public_html/rpnew/tmp/install_4fd78ee4eed14/install.php on line 493

Is there something I can do to fix this?

Thanks,
Neal

Hi,

It seems that there's some leftover in your database from some previous version and our installer can't handle it.

We'll fix our installer in next version, so you'll update directly to 4.2.8 then. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

While I wait for the new version, would it work to uninstall / reinstall? Would I lose any data?

Thanks.

Uninstall and clean install should work, but you would lose your JoomSEF configuration and SEF URLs, unless you would backup and manually restore the database tables.

If you're willing to do manual changes in database, there's probably another way that could work, but please note that it's on your own risk:
1. Make sure you have the current backup of your website along the database in case something goes wrong! (eg. using Akeeba Backup)
2. Open your database using phpMyAdmin or similar tool
3. Find the jos_sefexts table (may have different prefix in your database)
4. Delete all records in that table (but don't drop the table)
5. Update to 4.2.7 should work now
