Hi All,

Bit new to all this SEF stuff, so may be a silly question, but when should you purge the SEF Urls? Is it something that you should do manually? Does it do it automatically? What actually happens when you do it? And why should one do it? Can somebody please explain exactly what the process is?

Hi skiguru,

purgeing the URLs means that created URLs are deleted from database. It does not happen automatically and you should do it when you change some configuration affecting URLs generation (for example when you turn Excluding source info on) so the URLs can be recreated with the new setting.
Note that when you purge URLs, none of your custom URLs will be deleted, only the automatically created ones.

just one more question... The number of SEF urls seems to grow everyday, irrespective of whether I add content, around 1000 a day, why is this?

Well that many URLs probably mean they are useless links that are used only once, most likely generated by Search and other components. If that's the case, try to read section Preventing duplicates in JoomSEF documentation or items 4 and 5 in JoomSEF FAQ http://www.artio.net/en/product-faq/joomsef-faqs-2.html.
