I help to manage a Joomla-based site which uses ARTIO JoomSEF to generate SE friendly links for articles based on the titles of those articles.

I've noticed that for some articles, the links don't point to the articles as they should. For example, there's this link:

I suspect that the problem here is that it has dropped the html extension - but why should it do so?

Is it because the title is too long? If so, is there a place in the JoomSEF php that I can change so that the full length of 100 characters can be used for the title (as allowed in the jos_content database table)?

without checking the site DB, I cannot say that for sure, but I would also suspect that this problem occurs because the links are too long.

I think it is not desirable to allow and support such long links because the longer the URLs are, the more the site speed can be affected. Also for humans, that is not really a much friendly option.

What we will however check is, why the links are not truncated correctly. (I think they should be, so maybe there is some bug).

Is there anything you would like me to do - any information you would like me to supply - to help you diagnose what could be causing the problem of links not having the html extension added?

I believe I am having the same problem. Link/titles are too long. Please help. In my case, its urgent!

I believe you are correct in saying that the URLs are too long. Create shorter title aliases, and use those for the URL generation. In the configuration there is an option. Select "use title aliases", then purge the automatically created URLs. I believe, however, if you do not have title aliases for a certain content item, it will use the title name. This allows you to only create title aliases for content with extremely long names. Let me know if this works for you.
