TOPIC: the Best JoomSEF configuration?

the Best JoomSEF configuration? 15 years, 1 month ago #8750

I would like to know if i should change the default configuration of joomsef in order to have a better indexation/position.

For example:

I like to add ".html" at the end of my pages (i think this way you know if you are in a category or in a final page)

So, did you change the default configuration? which parametrer? why?

(i think it should be good for all of joomsef user talking about this, share experiencies...)

From SEO point of view, a "slighly" better (I think there is no quantification about that) is not to use any suffix for pages at all / which is current default JoomSEF configuration setting.

The reason is that noone, especially not robots care about the ending of URL identifying if your page is running on static html, php, jsp, asp or whatever else. Also, the URL is somewhat shorter and in case, the technology would change, the URL stays.

i have found this:

Whether URLs containing "." (dot) character do or do not work is dependant on web server configuration.

The safest solution, and also advantage for SEO, is not to allow JoomSEF to include "." character to SEF URLs. This can be configured in JoomSEF options, by adding "." to the set of characters to be stripped of SEF URLs.

This does not apply to the file extensions as ".htm", ".html", ".phtml" or similar. We however recommend not to use file extension in SEF URLs as well.

so, why is better without extension?

ok, i have found that it is good adding a trailing slash "/" as the "File suffix"

see:
