Do you have a workaround? I don't find an joomSEF extension for SlideShowPro.
I had to comment out the following entries in the .htaccess file since it was causing the 404 errors.

What kind of .htaccess fo you have there?

If there is no SEF extension for a component that does not work by default, the simply go to JoomSEF / Manage Extensions and switch the SEO procession for this component to Joomla Default Router or off completely.

I do not think that turning off Apaches module is an appropriate solution at all. Are you aware what you are doing in the .htaccess file?

Thanks for your response. Sorry if my question was causing confusion. I believe that you have a very good extension for converting URLs to be SEO friendly.

My .htaccess file is just the normal file created during the installation process. However, it was modified by the SlideShowPro Director extension as shown in the snippet in my original post. As you can see, several entries were added to the file. I spent quite a lot of time trying to figure out what was causing all the 404 page errors when SEF was enabled. As a result the only solution that I can figure out is that the entries created in the .htaccess file by the SlideShowPro Director extension were somehow conflicting with the SEF. After commenting out all the lines added by SlideShowPro Director then SEF will work - no 404 page errors.

Now, my question is, what explains this behavior with joomSEF? I did check out the JoomSEF / Manage Extensions but there is not an extension for SlideShowPro Director thus prompting my original question about another workaround other than commenting out the entries for SlideShowPro Director in the .htaccess file.

I suspect that these lines have something to do with it but have not had the time to verify.

well if the SlideShowPro does modify the .htaccess in the Joomla root directory, then it is quite obvious that JoomSEF will not work and you will get 404 messages, as the added directives disable the SEO. Specifically the code:

If the SlideShowPro works even when these are commented out, then it is fine and I believe you can run both.
If not, then some special set of rules might be needed to make sure both SlideShowPro and JoomSEF will run. That would however already be out of range of these support forums - anyway we could still solve within a paid Joomla support we offer
