I bought JoomSef and the virtuemart extension.

The main component installed fine and works. I then installed the virtuemart extension.

Two problems:

a) Virtuemart does not appear in the list of installed extensions in the joomsef component page. Should it?
b) I have a menu link on my home page that leads to a product page in virtuemart. When the link is enabled, I get:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function getmenutitle() in /home2/DOMAIN/public_html/content/components/com_sef/sef_ext/com_virtuemart.php on line 20

If i disable the menu item then the home page loads fine.

Yes, definatelly, it should appear there. If it does not, something went wrong on installation. Please, make sure your file permissions are correct and that there were no error messages generated during install.

Make sure, you have the correct VirtueMart extension version, compatible with your current JoomSEF version.
