TOPIC: Problem with joomSEF overwriting normal meta data?

Problem with joomSEF overwriting normal meta data? 14 years, 9 months ago #11016

Hi there, I have bought and installed the virtuemart extension and I've managed to get it working (it's a good extension, i'm sure, but I had trouble), after lots of problems....but it seems to be auto-generating meta information and over-writing the meta data I set ... for example this is a meta descrip. from a product page..Not good, as it's grabbing the blockquote text from the start of the product description...

<meta name="description" content="<blockquote>If you’re looking to be different then this is the iQuarium for you! Simply stylish... enough said.</blockquote> Simpl"/>

Page example : www.iquarium.co.uk/wall-aquariums/curve

This is the first line of the product description, so it's almost doing it like google and pulling it from the page content? Although there is nowhere to specify meta information for virtuemart products,,,,so maybe that makes sense?

However I have the same problem on content items aswell.....

Starting from the homepage( www.iquarium.co.uk/ ), it works ok, when you click on iCare ( www.iquarium.co.uk/icare (the menu item that holds the articles)) ... that menu item opens a standard blog layout (is this the problem?) ...and this page is ok, it has normal meta data from joomla global config. Then when you click on the article to "read more" and itt akes you to the article page, the page title goes wrong (it loses the site name) and it over-writes all the meta data....

For example: www.iquarium.co.uk/aquarium-set-up/setti...opical-wall-aquarium

Please help! I'm nearly there I think...Want to get it finally sorted..thanks in advance for any advice

Also, as a small annoyance, joomSEF seems to be dropping off the menu title from the url, once you naviagate into the menu item?

Also, all part of the virtuemart problem -

On the product pages ( www.iquarium.co.uk/wall-aquariums/curve ) , when you hover over the thumbnail, you see the url - www.iquarium.co.uk/components/com_virtue...ic_4b7187a4c3e02.png

Doesn't seem very friendly, is this correct?

Hello,

why would you like to make images URL SEO in first place? Plus it is a real image path, not a "virtual" one.

As regards metadata, these are taken from the brief product description and full description. You can then edit them in JoomSEF URL Manager.

As regards overriding metadata and page title, this can be configured in JoomSEF plugin settings. Plugins Manager / System - ARTIO JoomSEF.
